systeme.io vs Thinkific is not a fee argument, because Thinkific charges no platform fee. It is about course depth against everything around the course. Thinkific is the better teaching tool: unlimited courses, a stronger player, certificates, and a 10,000-student ceiling. systeme.io hosts one course free with a checkout, an email list, and a funnel attached, and caps free students at 500. Neither is trying to be the other.

There is no free Thinkific plan
Thinkific removed its free plan from the pricing page in May 2024. What remains is a 30-day trial that converts to the $54 Basic plan, or $40 billed annually. This is the single most common surprise in this comparison, because the free plan is still described on plenty of older blog posts.
The course features you give up
Certificates of completion. Quizzes and assignments that grade properly. SCORM uploads on higher tiers. A better lesson player. If your course is professional development, compliance training, or anything where the learner expects a credential at the end, Thinkific is the right tool and systeme.io is not a substitute.
Where the student caps cut differently
Thinkific allows 10,000 current students on its self-serve plans, which is far above systeme.io’s 500 on the free plan. But systeme.io removes the student cap entirely on the $17 Startup plan, so anyone past 500 students pays $17 rather than $40. The course count runs the other way: Thinkific gives you unlimited courses at every tier, systeme.io five on Startup.
What systeme.io adds
The marketing. A multi-step funnel with an order bump and a one-click upsell, an email list with unlimited sends and sequences, a booking calendar, and an affiliate program on every plan. On Thinkific most of that is a separate subscription.
